Science Teaching Tools

AFCEA is an international association serving the interests of telecommunications, command & control, intelligence and information systems professionals.  Our worldwide membership represents various federal and state government agencies, as well as corporate and industry counterparts.

AFCEA Science Teaching Tool Grant Program is a joint effort between the AFCEA International Educational Foundation and the Atlanta-AFCEA Chapter to promote and reward excellence in science teaching and to enhance the abilities of capable teachers in Atlanta area schools. Grants of $1,000 each are awarded to enable local teachers to purchase supplies and/or equipment to augment science experiments and activities in the classroom.   We are extremely pleased to make this offer available to some of the first heroes our children encounter.  The variety of projects and the innovation in our high schools is impressive!

In past years, we provided one grant per county across counties in Metro Atlanta.  Two years ago, we decided to judge the projects on their merit and we encouraged each coordinator to send several grant applications for our review.  We received about 36 applications (over 30 from last year) from about 10 counties.  Next year will be encouraging more counties to participate.  We are thrilled to present $1,000 grants to the following 14 teachers from across Atlanta metro area counties:

Joshua R. Taylor, Atlanta Public Schools

Linda Ledbetter, Carroll County

Janice Mitchell, Clayton County

Dharma Stevens and Lashandia Hill, Clayton County

Douglas Moody, Cobb County

Anthony Elder, Coweta County

Michael Dowling, Dekalb County

Donte Miller, Dekalb County

Michael A. De Lisle, Fayette County

Lilly Gona, Fulton County

Mike Hutchings, Henry  County

Patti Cook, Paulding County

Jill Beach, Rockdale County

Larry Brumback, Rockdale County
